Fewer Deferments At Princeton than Harvard and Yale
We recently reported on the high deferment rates at Harvard and Yale for the Class of 2024 (read here to see how that may affect admissions for the Class of 2025), but to many people’s surprise, Princeton has shown a different trend than their Ivy League peers this year.
The Daily Princetonian reported last week that all students’ requests to defer enrollment for the year were approved, even after a “warning” from the University a few months earlier indicated that Princeton may have to actually limit the number of students able to do so. The article goes on to say that some students even wondered if that was a “scare tactic” to discourage the incoming class from doing so.
Is that because of the potentially concerning effect it may have on this year’s admissions cycle? Is it something more intrinsic to university operations?
In any case, Princeton is seeing 7% more of its admitted students enrolling than Harvard or Yale. It’s unclear exactly how this will affect the next admissions cycle, but Ivy Link will keep you posted.
