University of Virginia Early Decision Results Are In…
The University of Virginia has released its Early Decision (ED) results for the class of 2026. Of the 3,500 early applicants, 1,098 students earned admission via ED, which is binding. This data reflects a 31.37 percent ED acceptance rate. In an article for UVA Today, Greg Roberts, the school’s dean of admissions, said, “This is the largest, deepest, and most diverse early decision applicant pool we have ever seen. The students who applied this year are nothing short of remarkable.”
Compared to most large public universities, UVA admissions are quite selective, with an overall acceptance rate of approximately 24%. When we refer to “overall acceptance rates,” this means all students accepted during an admissions cycle. ED has its own acceptance rate but is included in the overall or total percentage of a college’s acceptance rate. UVA’s current ED acceptance rate is a significant indication of the benefit of applying via ED. According to the most recent Admission Trends survey data, a quarter of US colleges offer early decision plans. These schools have an average acceptance rate of 61 percent for their early decision applicants, while regular admission applicants have a 49 percent chance of acceptance. In addition, students who get into UVA have an average SAT score of 1340-1520 or an average ACT score of 30-34. We should state that UVA, like many colleges, remains test-optional. This policy went into effect in June 2020 due to the pandemic.
The ED acceptance rate stood at 25.1 percent for out-of-state residents, compared to 37.8 percent for Virginia residents, proving a clear advantage for in-state residents. Newly accepted students hail from 44 U.S. states and 15 nations.
