The Coalition App Essay Prompts For the 2024-25 Application Cycle

In September 2015, over 80 schools, including all Ivy Leagues and Stanford formed the Coalition for Access, Affordability, and Success (CAAS) to “increase college access and revamp the way students apply for college”. The Coalition App was first released in the 2016-2017 application cycle and has since expanded to over 170 member colleges. Most member institutions that accept the Coalition App, also accept the Common App. 

Coalition Application Essay Prompts

Here are the current Coalition Application essay prompts:

1. Tell a story from your life, describing an experience that either demonstrates your character or helped to shape it.

2. What interests or excites you? How does it shape who you are now or who you might become in the future?

3. Describe a time when you had a positive impact on others. What were the challenges? What were the rewards?

4. Has there been a time when an idea or belief of yours was questioned? How did you respond? What did you learn?

5. What success have you achieved or obstacles have you faced? What advice would you give a sibling or friend going through a similar experience?

6. Submit an essay on a topic of your choice.

Coalition App vs The Common App

Given the similarities between both platforms, students may find it challenging to decide which one to use for their applications. They might also wonder if colleges prefer one application over the other.

Just as both the SAT and ACT are equally accepted as standardized tests, there is no advantage or disadvantage to submitting your applications via the Common App or the Coalition App if your prospective college accepts both.
