ACT Further Delays Section Retesting
In October 2019, Ivy Link reported on the ACT’s major changes to how students would take the standardized test, including the option to retake individual sections. The changes were meant to not only increase the number of students who take the ACT, but also increase the number of students who score highly on the test.
This announcement gave ACT at least a temporary marketing edge, stating that it was evolving to meet students in the digital world in which they live, and that it wanted to improve in helping them succeed. Despite these claims, the ACT never implemented its section retesting policy in 2020 and will not do so for the 2021-2022 academic year, stating on their website that even though there were merits to the retesting option, they have “renewed [their] commitment to provide students with as many opportunities as possible to take the full ACT test.”
The reasoning behind ACT’s decision is ambiguous, but what matters to your student is how to prepare moving forward. Now that your student will have to take the entire test if they want to improve their score, the more prepared in advance they are for all the section tests, the better. Our tutors will equip your student with the knowledge, strategies, and techniques to enhance the chances of achieving the highest score in one sitting.
Correction: a previous version of this post implied that the ACT had begun offering the option to retake individual sections beginning Fall 2020, when in fact the option was never officially instated.
