Columbia University has announced that it will no longer require two SAT Subject Tests for admission, beginning with the Fall 2017 cycle. The new policy also drops the previously required writing section of the ACT or SAT. This is a big change, as Columbia previously had one of the most demanding standardized testing requirements in the nation: ACT or SAT scores including the writing section, plus at least two SAT Subject Tests. We’ll see if this becomes a trend. Columbia is the first Ivy League university to “completely” drop this requirement—UPENN, Dartmouth, Princeton, and Yale do not require SAT Subject Tests, but do recommend them.
