College Apps 2022: Take (Early Decision) Two!
This month, prospective college first-years submitted their applications for Early Decision (ED) in the hopes of receiving an acceptance letter before the December holiday break. Students accepted during this round can then celebrate that their college application process is over.
For students who don’t receive an acceptance letter, you still have another chance! Many colleges offer a second round of ED with a January deadline. ED II applicants will hear back in February, well before the Regular Decision in March/April. So students will still know their fate before much of the general public.
It is important to note that, like Early Decision, Early Decision II is binding. So only apply if it is your top choice school.
There are several reasons why a student might apply for ED II. Here are just a few:
More time to improve SAT/ACT scores.
More time to solidify college preferences and assess financial need.
Shows the college that they’re committed to it, which makes the student a more attractive applicant.
Have an opportunity to submit strong grades earned during senior year (whereas ED I applicants are usually evaluated on the basis of their academic performance through junior year only).
Colleges usually accept a higher percentage of ED applicants than Regular Decision applicants.
If your top-choice school offers ED II, you should strongly consider applying. Not all schools offer ED II, so check with your individual school to see what they offer. If you’re looking to venture down the path of ED II, Ivy Link can ensure a less stressful application submission process. 97% of our students were admitted to one of their top-3 colleges, and on average, our students raised their ACT scores by 12 points (out of 36) and SAT scores by 170 points (out of 1600).
