Dartmouth Apps Skyrocket: Class of '28 Roundup

This year was a highly competitive year for Dartmouth!

In the Regular Decision round, Dartmouth accepted 1,685 prospective students from a pool of 31,657 applications. These students join the 606 students accepted in the Early Decision round for a total acceptance rate of 2,291, or 5.23%.

It is important to note that applications set a record high this year, up almost 10% from last year. Thus, their acceptance rate dropped a full percentage point from 6.2% to 5.2%.

So, let’s break this down. In the Early Decision round, Dartmouth accepted 606 students from a pool of 3,550 for an acceptance rate of 17.07%.  In the Regular Decision round, the university accepted 1,685 students from a pool of 28,107 for an acceptance rate of 5.99%.

The takeaway: If Dartmouth is your first-choice college, apply in the Early Decision round for your highest chance of acceptance!

Fun Facts:

  • As a Homecoming tradition, the freshman class builds a bonfire and runs around it a set number of times in concordance with their class year (so the Class of 2028 would do 128 laps), while upperclassmen cheer them on.

  • Tea and cookies are served at 4pm each weekday at Sanborn Library, home of the English Department. It is estimated that around 1000 cups of tea are served every year!
